NRA CERTIFIED RANGE SAFETY OFFICER COURSE AT SPOKANE RIFLE CLUB
WHY TAKE THE RSO COURSE?
Although the term “Range Safety Officer” or “RSO” may be intimidating, this course is simply a comprehensive firearm safety and safe-handling course — so don’t let the title scare you. Whether it’s a trip to your local range, a hunting expedition, plinking on the back forty, teaching a friend how to shoot, or employment at a shooting range, we are all responsible for our own safety and the safety of those we are shooting with. With nearly 400 million firearms in America, responsible citizens need to know how to safely handle and store firearms and know how to organize, conduct and supervise safe shooting activities. Also, many ranges and shooting organizations are in desperate need of volunteer Range Safety Officers (RSO) and this is the industry standard for RSO training.
WHO CAN TAKE THE COURSE?
This is course is a coed course and a great starting place for those new to firearm ownership and shooting and it is a great place for the advanced shooter or long-time gun owner to learn safe range procedures, range commands, hone strategies for working with new shooters, and range etiquette. There’s no minimum age, skill, or experience required to take the course.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT OUT OF THE COURSE?
This is a hands on, non-live fire course full of scenarios and practical exercises designed to allow students to experience many different firearm action types and prepare for the RSO role through low-key, fun scenarios. Students will learn how to properly take control of firearms on the firing line and how to safely clear stoppages and malfunctions. Students will receive coaching and feedback on the practical exercises conducted during the course. RSOs ensure that shooters follow firearm safety rules and, if shooting at an established range, the range’s rules and regulations in order to reduce property damage and personal injury. The NRA encourages shooters to learn more and become responsible for the safety of our fellow responsible gun owners through this program.
This NRA course is designed to prepare individuals who possess basic firearms knowledge to assist during range events.

WHAT TO BRING:
** Your lunch and any snacks and drinks to keep you going for the entire class day (refrigerator and microwave available for our use). We will do a working lunch so there will not be time to leave the range to go out and get a lunch. There are no vending machines or retails sales onsite.
** Notebook & Writing Utensils
** Any comfort items you prefer — feel free to bring anything you need to be comfortable. The building is climate controlled but it can be on the cool side in the winter months so please wear layered clothing.
** If you are currently or have ever a member of the NRA it is sometimes helpful to have your NRA number (no card needed – just the number itself) with you at the class. Don’t stress or worry about this at all — only if it would be easy for you to find that number and bring it with you. NRA membership is NOT required for class attendance.
